HoYoverse confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 port of its free cozy life sim Petit Planet for 2027, after the Dec. 4 launch on PC, iOS and Android.

HoYoverse has confirmed that Petit Planet, its free-to-play cozy life sim, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The reveal came at the end of the studio's Pre-Launch Special Program livestream on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, according to Polygon. The game itself launches earlier, on PC, iOS and Android on Dec. 4.

What HoYoverse confirmed

Polygon reports that a short trailer closing the stream confirmed a Switch 2 port is in the works with a 2027 release window. No exact date was given, and Nintendo Everything says HoYoverse will share one later. The footage reportedly looks on par with the PC version and shows both docked and handheld play.

Polygon also notes that Switch 2 is the first console Petit Planet will be ported to. No PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X version has been announced.

What kind of game it is

Nintendo Everything describes Petit Planet as a free-to-play cozy galactic life simulation. You tend a planet of your own, plant a seed that grows into a large tree, and slowly connect with neighboring planets and the characters who live on them. The outlet adds that more than 1,000 clothing and furniture items can be earned for free through regular play.

Polygon says the loop of customizing a character and building up a homestead is clearly in the Animal Crossing mold. It leans harder into farming, though, in the way of Stardew Valley.

What is not settled yet

Polygon says it has previewed Petit Planet a couple of times and enjoyed it, but it still has questions about how intrusive the gacha elements will be once the game leaves pre-release testing. That is the real unknown. A free game can be generous or grabby, and we won't know which until real players spend real weeks in it after Dec. 4.

Pricing for any in-game purchases hasn't been detailed in the reports we reviewed. The Switch 2 version's price, if it differs from the free base game, is also unannounced.

Why it matters for U.S. readers

Our take: the timing is smart. Animal Crossing: New Horizons got its Switch 2 Edition in January, according to Polygon, but Nintendo hasn't announced a brand-new Animal Crossing for the console. That leaves a gap, and a free cozy game from the studio behind Genshin Impact is well placed to fill it. If you only play on a Nintendo console, you'll be waiting until 2027. Everyone else can try it on a phone or PC starting Dec. 4.
