A One UI 9.5 beta build for the Galaxy S26 Ultra is on Samsung's servers. Here is how sign-up will work, who gets in and the downgrade catch.
As of Nov. 8, 2026, Samsung has not announced a One UI 9.5 beta, but the signs say it is close. Engadget reported Nov. 7 that a beta build for the Galaxy S26 Ultra has appeared on Samsung's Korean and U.S. update servers. Engadget calls that typically the last step before registrations open.
If you own a Galaxy S26 and want in, here is how signing up will work, who is likely to be left out and why you might want to skip it.
When does the One UI 9.5 beta start?
There is no date. Samsung has not announced the program or a launch window, per Engadget. The build spotted on the servers is firmware version S948BXXU6ZZK3, and it is for the S26 Ultra only so far. Android Headlines and SammyGuru, which also reported the build, point to registrations opening either later in November or in early December.
Last year gives a rough guide. Samsung opened the One UI 8.5 beta on Dec. 8, 2025, for the Galaxy S25 series. Engadget notes One UI 9.5 is expected to arrive with the Galaxy S27 early in 2027, and Samsung has not given a date for that Unpacked event either. One UI 9.5 is still built on Android 17, the same base as One UI 9.0, which shipped with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 on July 22.
Treat all of this as a prediction. Firmware showing up on a server is a good sign, not a promise.
Who can join the One UI 9.5 beta in the U.S.?
Probably owners of unlocked Galaxy S26 phones. Engadget says the last beta only reached unlocked phones in the U.S., so a carrier-locked S26 will likely have to wait for the stable release. Engadget says the beta is limited to six countries: Germany, India, Poland, South Korea, the U.K. and the U.S.
Other phones may follow. SammyGuru expects the S25 series, the Z Fold 8 and the Z Flip 8 to be added, according to Engadget's summary. That is an expectation, not an announcement. SammyGuru adds that the beta is not expected to go beyond those six countries.
How do you sign up for a Samsung beta?
Once the program opens, the steps are short. According to Engadget:
- Install the Samsung Members app from the Galaxy Store or Google Play and sign in with a Samsung account.
- Tap the One UI 9.5 banner or beta card on the home screen and choose Registration for One UI Beta Program.
- If your phone and country qualify, go to Settings, then Software update, then Download and install.
Samsung rolls builds out gradually, so a missing update on day one does not mean you were rejected. In last year's beta, owners in Poland and India waited until the second build on Dec. 22, Engadget reports.
Should you install it?
Our take: only if the S26 is not your one and only phone. Engadget's advice is to update all your apps and back up to a computer with Smart Switch first, because beta software can corrupt data. Leaving is the clumsy part. Withdrawing from the program does not remove the beta build. To get back to stable software you have to connect the phone to a computer and run a downgrade in Smart Switch, which wipes everything you did while testing.
That is a real cost for a point-five update whose features nobody has seen. Samsung has not said what One UI 9.5 adds, and we found no confirmed feature list. If you rely on your phone for work, or you bought through a carrier and would be locked out anyway, waiting for the stable release is the sensible move.
If you do join, report bugs through Samsung Members, under Participated Beta test and then Beta feedback.
What is confirmed and what is not?
Confirmed by reporting: a One UI 9.5 build for the S26 Ultra is on Samsung's servers, and One UI 9.5 is based on Android 17. Not confirmed: the beta date, the supported phones, the feature list and the S27 launch date. We will update this story when Samsung announces the program.
