Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 preloads start Nov. 10 and need up to 212 GB. Here are the U.S. start times for PS5 and Xbox, plus launch-night clocks.

As of Nov. 3, 2026, Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI preloading starts Tuesday, Nov. 10 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that the download weighs up to 212 GB. Launch stays at Thursday, Nov. 19. The new detail that matters most to U.S. players: Xbox owners get in earlier, with preload opening on the evening of Nov. 9.

When can you preload GTA 6 in the U.S.?

PS5 players can start at midnight local time on Nov. 10, according to Sony's PlayStation Blog, and only if they have pre-ordered. IGN's rundown of Rockstar's schedule puts that at 12 a.m. ET on Nov. 10 for New York. Its list shows U.S. players in the other zones getting the same moment on Nov. 9: 11 p.m. CT, 10 p.m. MT and 9 p.m. PT.

Xbox works differently. IGN reports that Rockstar set Xbox Series X|S preloading to open at 12 a.m. GMT on Nov. 10, which is 7 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. CT, 5 p.m. MT and 4 p.m. PT on Monday, Nov. 9. That is the window to watch if you want to start the download after work.

One caution. Sony says "local midnight", while IGN's table appears to line up U.S. zones with Eastern time, so a Pacific player may see a different countdown than a strict reading suggests. Check the countdown on your own console rather than trusting a chart, ours included.

How big is the GTA 6 download?

Rockstar says the preload file is up to 212 GB, "depending on your device". PlayStation's own checklist tells players to clear a minimum of 212 GB on the console before Nov. 10. That matches the figure we covered in our earlier story on the reported install size, which had pointed to roughly 210 GB on PS5.

Our take: treat 212 GB as the floor for free space, not the target. Patches usually arrive near launch, and nobody wants to delete another game at 11 p.m. on Nov. 9 to make room. If your console is already tight, sort that out this week.

What changes on Nov. 12 and Nov. 19?

Rockstar says code-in-box copies for both consoles should be at retailers starting Nov. 12. The word "should" is Rockstar's, so it is not a hard guarantee for every store. As we reported earlier, those boxes hold a download code and not a disc.

Launch itself uses local midnight on both platforms, per IGN's reading of Rockstar's announcement. For New York that is 12 a.m. ET on Nov. 19. For Los Angeles it is listed as 9 p.m. PT on Nov. 18, with Chicago at 11 p.m. CT and Denver at 10 p.m. MT that same night.

Rockstar also said it will add a printable GTA 6 cover art poster and a map of Leonida as a free digital download on its official site on launch day. A double-sided physical version is planned shortly after, from the Rockstar Store, for $0.99 on its own or free with any Rockstar Store purchase.

What is confirmed and what is not

  • Confirmed by Rockstar: Nov. 10 preload, up to 212 GB, Nov. 19 launch, boxed copies from Nov. 12 ("should"), free digital poster and map on launch day.
  • Confirmed by Sony: pre-download for pre-orders at Nov. 10 local midnight on PS5.
  • Not confirmed: whether a day-one patch will add to the download, and any PC release date.

One correction for anyone who read our earlier explainer. It said digital buyers could preload from Nov. 12. Rockstar's newer announcement moves that to Nov. 10, and Nov. 12 now applies to boxed copies reaching stores.
