People has named The Pitt star Noah Wyle its 2026 Sexiest Man Alive, his first time with the title. Here's what we know so far.

Noah Wyle is People's 2026 Sexiest Man Alive. The magazine revealed the pick on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, around 6 a.m. ET, and Variety reports it is the first time the The Pitt star has won the title.

What we know

According to Variety, Wyle said in his People interview that he assumed the news was a joke. "I thought that sounded like a prank — just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me," he said. People lists his age as 55 and says the cover shoot took place at a Malibu estate in August.

He follows Wicked star Jonathan Bailey, who took the 2025 title. Variety notes this is the 41st year of a franchise Mel Gibson launched in 1985.

Why the pick landed this way

Wyle first reached a mass audience as Dr. John Carter on NBC's ER, a role that brought him three Golden Globe nominations and five Emmy nominations, according to Variety. He returned to a hospital set in HBO's The Pitt as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. Variety says that performance earned him a 2026 Golden Globe and back-to-back Emmys for best actor in a drama in 2025 and 2026. Season 3 is set to premiere in January 2027.

The win also closes a loop. People's own reporting says he and his ER castmates, including George Clooney, appeared on a "Sexy Men of ER" cover decades ago, and Clooney went on to claim the main title twice. Back in January, Variety reports, Clooney joked that AARP's magazine should run a "sexiest man still alive" issue and nominate Wyle first.

What is not confirmed yet

People's full cover story and the issue's on-sale details are still rolling out, and we have only read the pieces published so far. We will update this post if there are more announcements tied to the reveal.

Our take

This is analysis, not reporting. Wyle's win reads less like a surprise and more like a victory lap for a long TV career that just got a second act. It also helps The Pitt ahead of its January return, which is the kind of free publicity any network would take. Whether you care about the title or not, the timing is good for HBO.
