CD Projekt Red is releasing update 2.5 on Thursday, teasing cyberware customization and dual-wielding to coincide with Edgerunners season 2 on Netflix.

CD Projekt Red has announced a free Edgerunners 2 Update for Cyberpunk 2077, landing on Thursday, October 22. IGN and Eurogamer both report that the studio has so far kept the details back, but it has confirmed the update will include new items and features, along with content inspired by the second season of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime.

The timing is deliberate. According to IGN, Edgerunners 2 arrived on Netflix on October 20, and Eurogamer notes that early reaction to the series has been strong.

What is confirmed so far

The update is labelled version 2.5 and will launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. A Nintendo Switch 2 release will "follow shortly", according to the developer. In a post on the official Cyberpunk site, the studio teased cyberware customization, a new dual-wielding playstyle and more, under the line "New Edgerunners, new chrome, new playstyle."

A fuller breakdown is coming soon. CD Projekt Red has scheduled a REDstreams broadcast for Wednesday, October 21 at 5 PM CEST, where it will walk through some of the new features. IGN reports that patch notes are due the same day.

A surprise for a nearly six-year-old game

The announcement stands out because of what the studio said earlier this year. IGN notes that in May CD Projekt Red insisted it had "no plans" for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLC or expansions, which disappointed fans hoping for a follow-up to 2023's Phantom Liberty. A free update is not an expansion, but it does show the studio is still willing to add meaningful content to the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is also still selling. Per both reports, it passed 40 million copies sold in July, up 5 million from November 2025. Eurogamer suggests the renewed attention around Edgerunners could give sales another lift.

What comes next

For anyone waiting on a true sequel, IGN reports that Cyberpunk 2 sits further back in development than The Witcher 4. It also reports that co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has suggested it will not arrive before 2030. That makes updates like this one the main source of new Cyberpunk content for now.

Players can expect the full details when the REDstreams episode airs, with the update itself following a day later.
