Shipment is live in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 as of Oct. 27, in the 6v6 rotation and a Shipment 24/7 playlist, IGN reports. Season 1 is due next week.
Shipment, one of the most recognizable maps in Call of Duty history, is now in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. IGN reported on Oct. 27 that the map has been added to the standard 6v6 rotation and to a dedicated playlist called Shipment 24/7. It is the first post-launch map for the game.
What is live now
The map arrives in two places. It sits in the normal 6v6 multiplayer rotation, so you can land on it in any mode that uses that pool. The second home is Shipment 24/7, a playlist that serves only that map and changes just the game mode.
IGN notes that longtime players already know the 24/7 format, and that it is popular for grinding camos and challenges because kills come fast. IGN's story embeds a social media post confirming that the map is live.
Why Shipment has a following
IGN traces the map back to 2007. As IGN tells it, the layout started as a simple test environment for features such as split-screen and was reportedly left in the final build by mistake. In an era before constant patches, fixing it cost money, so it stayed. Players liked the fast, chaotic matches, and the map has returned in several Call of Duty games since. IGN calls it a staple of the recently rebooted Modern Warfare series.
What is unconfirmed
More content is on the way. IGN says the first season of post-launch content for Modern Warfare 4 debuts next week, but the outlet adds that nothing has been announced about what is in it. New weapons, a battle pass, skins and possibly new maps and modes would be the usual pattern, IGN says, though that is a guess, not a confirmation. We would treat it the same way.
For context, IGN published its review of the campaign and multiplayer on Oct. 16 and gave the two modes a combined 7 out of 10. That score belongs to IGN, not to Savvy VibeZ. The review praised the campaign and said the multiplayer mostly did not push the series forward, though it was still fun.
Our take
Bringing back Shipment first is a safe, crowd-pleasing move. Fans of the 24/7 playlist know exactly what they are getting, and a familiar map is an easy reason to log back in. It also lines up with IGN's criticism that the new multiplayer maps are not that inventive. That is our reading, not something Activision has said.
Whether it keeps players around is a separate question, and one that Season 1 will answer more than a single map does.
