## Key takeaways

- Amazon announced a $25 Thanksgiving meal on Nov. 2 with an 8 lb. turkey; Target is $30 for six, Walmart $35 for 10 and Aldi $39 for 10, per ABC News.
- Amazon does not say how many people its meal serves; the offer runs through Nov. 26 while supplies last, with same-day delivery in 2,300+ U.S. cities.
- Turkey prices are up 8.4% from a year ago, according to the latest Consumer Price Index cited by ABC News.
- Thanksgiving is Nov. 26; Yahoo Shopping lists Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco and Aldi as closed that day.

As of Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, the cheapest ready-made Thanksgiving dinner from a big U.S. retailer is Amazon's $25 meal, announced Monday, Nov. 2. Target prices a meal for six at $30, Walmart's basket is $35 and feeds 10, and Aldi's is $39 for 10 people, according to ABC News. Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 26, and Amazon's own press release says its offers run through that day.

The headline prices are not apples to apples. Here is how the four compare, what is in them, and what to check before you order.

## How much does a Thanksgiving meal cost at Amazon, Walmart, Target and Aldi?

- **Amazon Grocery: $25.** Amazon's release lists an 8 lb. Butterball frozen turkey plus sides and dessert ingredients, with free same-day delivery on orders of $25 or more in more than 2,300 U.S. cities and towns. It is available through Nov. 26 while supplies last.
- **Target: $30.** ABC News says it feeds six and includes a Butterball turkey and eight sides.
- **Walmart: $35.** ABC News says the 26-item holiday basket feeds 10, or $3.50 a person, with a Butterball turkey, rolls, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.
- **Aldi: $39.** ABC News says it feeds 10, with a 16-pound turkey, sides and pumpkin pie ingredients.

Amazon does not say how many people its meal serves, which is the biggest gap in the comparison. A $25 meal that feeds four is a different deal from one that feeds eight, so check the serving count before you compare it to Walmart's per-person math.

## What is actually in Amazon's $25 meal?

According to Amazon, the box includes the turkey and these items:

- Ocean Spray jellied cranberry sauce and Stove Top stuffing
- Two McCormick gravy mix packets and two boxes of Kraft Mac & Cheese
- Campbell's cream of mushroom soup and French's crispy fried onions, which make a green bean casserole
- A 5 lb. bag of russet potatoes, carrots, canned corn and cut green beans
- Crescent rolls, two pie crusts, organic pumpkin puree and evaporated milk for the pie

You will likely still need butter, milk, eggs and seasoning, and a frozen bird has to thaw in the fridge for a couple of days, so plan the delivery date backward from Nov. 26.

## When do Amazon's other Thanksgiving deals start and end?

Amazon's release gives this calendar:

- Frozen turkey at $0.79 a pound, Nov. 1 through Nov. 26
- Fresh turkey at $0.99 a pound, Nov. 14 through Nov. 26
- Thanksgiving staples under $4, Nov. 1 through Nov. 26
- 40% off charcuterie and party snacks, Nov. 2 through Nov. 14
- 40% off pre-made sides, Nov. 15 through Nov. 26
- 20% off select Hefty compostable plates and utensils, Nov. 14 through Nov. 19
- 20% to 25% off more than 300 McCormick products, Nov. 19 through Nov. 30
- 20% off select Ziploc storage, Nov. 26 through Nov. 30

For scale, that works out to about $6.32 for an 8 lb. frozen bird at 79 cents a pound and $7.92 for an 8 lb. fresh one at 99 cents, before any delivery fees or taxes.

## Are turkey prices going up?

Yes. ABC News says turkey prices are up 8.4% from a year ago, according to the latest Consumer Price Index. Consumer trend analyst Phil Lempert told ABC News to compare unit prices, not bundle prices, and to start shopping early while items are easy to find. Some chains are using a different pitch: BJ's Wholesale Club is offering a free Butterball turkey to members who spend $150 or more in one transaction between Oct. 31 and Nov. 9, and ShopRite gives a free holiday item, including whole turkeys and ham, to shoppers who spend $400 between Oct. 25 and Nov. 26.

## Which stores are open on Thanksgiving Day?

Many of the big ones are not. Yahoo Shopping's 2026 roundup lists Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco, Aldi, Publix and Trader Joe's as closed on Thanksgiving Day, while Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway and Whole Foods have modified hours that vary by store. For Black Friday, Yahoo lists Walmart and Target opening at 6 a.m., Best Buy at 6 a.m. and Costco at 9 a.m. for Executive members and 10 a.m. for everyone else. Hours differ by location, so confirm with your store.

## Our take

The $25 Amazon box is a decent safety net, not a full plan. It is cheapest on paper, but it is the only one that does not say how many it serves, and it only works if same-day delivery covers your address. Walmart's $35 basket and Aldi's $39 meal are easier to judge because both say they feed 10. If you are hosting a crowd, price your own cart against those, since Amazon's own turkey prices this month are low. If you are cooking for three or four and want a shortcut, Amazon's meal is worth a look. Whatever you pick, check the checkout total, because prices and stock can change before Nov. 26.
