## Key takeaways

- A Save Mass Effect billboard truck is driving around EA and EA Sports headquarters in Redwood City, California, as of Nov. 6.
- N7 Day is Saturday, Nov. 7; fans are pushing a Steam Play Day for Mass Effect Legendary Edition and a tribute video.
- The Official BioWare Store lists a new N7 helmet replica at $174.99 for preorder, with no ship date.
- A Change.org petition has more than 300,000 signatures, but EA has announced no change to the BioWare closure.

Mass Effect fans took their campaign to EA's front door on Friday, Nov. 6, parking a mobile billboard truck outside the EA and EA Sports headquarters in Redwood City, California, according to IGN. Saturday, Nov. 7, is N7 Day, the series' yearly celebration, and it is the first one since EA shut down BioWare. As of Nov. 6, here is what fans have planned, what is on sale and what has not changed.

## What is the Save Mass Effect truck, and who is behind it?

The truck comes from a fan group called We are Mass Effect, working with billboard organizer and content creator Kala Elizabeth, IGN reports. Its signs carry a QR code and the web address SaveMassEffect.com. It follows a day-long billboard the group ran in New York City's Times Square. The group asked supporters not to go onto EA property.

More is coming. Another mobile billboard is due near BioWare's former offices on Saturday, and a final one will circle The Game Awards ceremony in December for about four hours, Elizabeth told IGN. She added that she has no plans to crowdfund more billboards after that, because these were already exhausting.

## What is happening on N7 Day, Nov. 7?

We are Mass Effect told IGN it is finishing a video for Saturday that features fans, actors and contributors, including Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer, who voiced Commander Shepard. The group is also pushing what it calls N7 Play Day, asking players to launch Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Steam to lift the game's player numbers. The remaster collection is also sold on PlayStation, Xbox and the EA app, according to the official Mass Effect site.

Next week, the group says, it plans to send cupcakes decorated in N7 colors to EA's headquarters. Separately, composer Sam Hulick said in late October, as Eurogamer reported, that he hoped to release a rescored version of the leaked Mass Effect: Universe trailer for N7 Day. We have not seen it confirmed as released, so treat that as a plan. Our earlier story covers [what that leaked trailer shows](/post/mass-effect-universe-trailer-leaks-after-bioware-shutdown).

## Is EA still selling Mass Effect merchandise?

Yes. IGN reports that the Official BioWare Store has put up a new wearable N7 helmet replica for preorder at $174.99, with no ship date given. The price includes a weighted stand, a plaque and a challenge coin. The drop also includes N7 sneakers and a Garrus Vakarian T-shirt, and the store has discounted older N7 items such as hats, sweaters and statues. IGN says the products are made by DPI Merchandise.

If you are tempted by the helmet, remember there is no delivery date yet. The $174.99 figure is the price IGN listed on Nov. 6, so check the store before you order.

## Can the petitions change EA's mind?

EA announced on Oct. 21 that it was closing BioWare after more than 30 years and ending early development on the next Mass Effect game. Bloomberg reported EA would cut about 400 jobs, with around 50 at BioWare, according to GamesIndustry.biz. The closure came less than three months after the $55 billion EA takeover by PIF, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners finished on Aug. 4.

A Change.org petition asking EA to keep Mass Effect alive, or license it to another studio, passed 223,000 signatures by Oct. 26 and now has more than 300,000, per IGN. A second petition, number e-7898, opened Nov. 4 on the Canadian House of Commons site and asks the Canadian government to help BioWare buy its independence. It needs 500 valid signatures to be presented, and IGN counted 2,861 at the time of writing. Eurogamer points out that the government cannot force EA to sell, that EA never shopped the studio around, and that it has a record of keeping the franchises of studios it closes.

## What is confirmed and what is not?

- **Confirmed:** BioWare is closed, the next Mass Effect project is canceled, the truck is outside EA's California headquarters, and the merch is on sale.
- **Planned by fans:** the N7 Day video, N7 Play Day on Steam, a second truck on Nov. 7 and a Game Awards billboard in December.
- **Reported, not confirmed by EA:** IGN notes one report saying EA had to choose between Star Wars: Battlefront 3 and Mass Effect 5.
- **Not announced:** any change of course from EA. In the reports we read, the company has said nothing new about the franchise's future.

A documentary, Mass Effect: The BioWare Story, was announced this week for 2027, per Eurogamer and Deadline. Filming began about two years before the closure, and the film is planned for a festival run, with no release date yet.

## Our take

A truck outside headquarters makes good pictures, but it will not reverse a decision EA made for business reasons. The one number fans can move themselves is the Legendary Edition player count, and it is a smart target because it is public and easy to compare from one day to the next. Still, a spike on a single Saturday does not prove lasting demand. Watch what happens to the count after N7 Day. If it holds, that is a stronger argument than any billboard.
