Sandra Hüller is in Avengers: Doomsday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news and confirmed it independently, the German actress has a cameo role in Marvel's December event film. Marvel had no comment, and Variety notes the studio does not talk about casting.

The role itself is being kept secret. Everything beyond "cameo" is speculation at this point.

## What the rumour mill says

Her name first surfaced a couple of weeks ago on the British Stunt Register, which set fans guessing. Both trades say the theories run in two directions: she could be playing the mother of Robert Downey Jr.'s Victor von Doom, or one of the Latverian Witches, the hooded figures in colour-coded robes that Marvel showed off at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Neither theory has been confirmed by anyone involved, so treat them as fan talk.

The cast is already enormous. Variety lists Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston and Channing Tatum, plus returning faces from the Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, Black Panther and X-Men films. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo are in post-production, with a Dec. 18 release date.

## Why Hüller is a notable get

This is the part that makes the news more than a name on a list. Hüller earned an Oscar nomination for Anatomy of a Fall and also starred in The Zone of Interest, and Variety says this will be her fifth major feature of 2026. The others it names are Project Hail Mary, Rose, Fatherland and Digger. THR adds that she played Tom Cruise's sister in Digger, and that she pushed for the karaoke song her Project Hail Mary character sings.

Marvel has long hired prestige actors for strange, small parts, so a cameo from someone like Hüller fits the pattern. Our read: a role this short is probably about texture rather than plot, and the studio's decision to hide even the character name suggests it connects to the Doom storyline in a way it would rather not spoil.

## What we still don't know

Plenty. We don't know how long she's on screen, whether she appears in the marketing, or which timeline her character belongs to. Marvel has revealed very little of the story beyond the fact that Downey's Doctor Doom is the heroes' most dangerous foe yet, with a plot that THR says touches heroes from different timelines teaming up against him.

The film opens Dec. 18. Until Marvel says something, Hüller's part remains a good mystery and a reminder that cameo casting is now a marketing game of its own.
