Netflix released the full trailer for its six-part *Pride and Prejudice* series on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and confirmed the show will premiere on Netflix on Dec. 3. Emma Corrin plays Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden plays Mr. Darcy, according to Variety.

## What Netflix and the trade press say

Variety describes the series as a faithful adaptation of Jane Austen's 1813 novel, centered on the push and pull between Elizabeth and Darcy. Dolly Alderton, author of *Everything I Know About Love*, wrote the scripts. Euros Lyn, who directed *Heartstopper*, directs. Netflix's Tudum site says Alderton announced the premiere date at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, England, and its post on the earlier teaser is dated Sept. 15.

Screen Rant reports that all six episodes arrive on Dec. 3. Netflix's own page says the series will "premiere" that day, so check the Netflix listing closer to the date if you plan to binge it in one sitting.

## Who else is in it

Olivia Colman plays Mrs. Bennet and Rufus Sewell plays Mr. Bennet, per Variety. Freya Mavor is Jane, Daryl McCormack is Mr. Bingley, Jamie Demetriou is Mr. Collins, Louis Partridge is Mr. Wickham, Rhea Norwood is Lydia and Fiona Shaw is Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery make their screen debuts as Mary and Kitty Bennet.

Corrin is also an executive producer, alongside Alderton, Lyn, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter. Lisa Osborne is the producer.

## What we do not know yet

Netflix has not said how long each episode runs. The company calls it a limited series, so nothing in the coverage so far points to a second season.

## Our take

Austen is one of the most filmed authors there is, so every new version has to explain why it exists. Six episodes is the best argument this one has. A two-hour movie has to rush through Netherfield and the Lucas family; a mini-series can let the slow misunderstandings actually take their time. The cast is also deeper than most period dramas manage, with Colman and Sewell as the Bennet parents. Whether the tone lands is something the trailer alone cannot settle. For U.S. viewers, the Dec. 3 date puts it right in holiday-binge season, which looks like a deliberate choice.
