The Insta360 Mic, a $250 wireless microphone kit, is the company's new mid-range option, and Engadget's review is broadly positive. The outlet scored it 8.2 out of 10, praising its sound, its customisable e-ink display and its removable storage while warning that rivals offer better value. That score and verdict belong to Engadget, not Savvy VibeZ.

## Where the Insta360 Mic sits in the range

According to Engadget, the Insta360 Mic fills the gap between the $330 Mic Pro and the cheaper Mic Air. Insta360's own launch material describes it as the more advanced mid-range option, and says it is the company's first customisable e-ink wireless mic with expandable storage. Engadget reviewer James Trew calls it a pared-down Mic Pro, with a cost-saving change that may make it more appealing to many creators.

That change is storage. Engadget notes the Insta360 Mic has no built-in memory and instead uses a microSD card, which Insta360 says enables internal recording, including 32-bit float audio, as a backup to what the camera or phone captures. The review argues that removable memory gives it an edge over the Pro, because creators can fit a bigger card or swap a full one, though it adds the risk of forgetting the card.

## What Engadget found on sound and features

Trew writes that the Insta360 Mic appears to inherit the audio quality he liked on the Mic Pro. He found the default and voice settings clear, the Rich tone preset better suited to podcasts, and the Bright preset more useful outdoors. Noise reduction worked well indoors and out, he says, without noticeable artefacts on his voice.

The review also highlights direct pairing with Insta360 cameras, which removes the need for the receiver dongle. It also covers support for up to four transmitters on one receiver, with each mic sent to its own audio channel. Insta360 lists up to 13 hours per transmitter and up to 34 hours with the charging case.

## Insta360 Mic price and the competition

The two-transmitter kit costs $250, according to Engadget, and a single transmitter is $80. The outlet puts that between Rode's Wireless Go III and Wireless Pro, and close to DJI's Mic 3, which it says has smaller, more discreet transmitters. Engadget also names Hollyland's Lark 2 as a popular alternative with similar-sized transmitters.

Engadget's summary list of negatives for the Insta360 Mic is short: chunky transmitters and a price that is less budget-friendly than rivals. Its verdict is that anyone wanting only two microphones and a receiver can find better value, but that the e-ink display makes the mic feel unique. It adds that owners of an Insta360 camera will find it an easier choice. Insta360 says the mic is available now through its store, Amazon and authorised retailers.
