That is our advice, not Rockstar's. As of Nov. 8, 2026, the first photos of a boxed GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 are circulating, and they raise one question worth checking before you spend money: how much free space do you need? According to RockstarINTEL, the back of the box lists 230 GB for the install, while Rockstar has said the download is 212 GB. Kotaku reported on Saturday, Nov. 7 that the photos came from a German retail worker, then disappeared when the Reddit account was deleted. We found no Rockstar statement on the images. Here is what is confirmed, what rests on a single leaked photo, and what to do before Nov. 12. ## What do the leaked GTA 6 box photos show? Kotaku describes a shrink-wrapped PS5 copy with a white label around a translucent blue case. A warning on the front says there is no disc inside and that an internet connection is required to redeem the digital download code. RockstarINTEL adds that the back shows an "online functions" icon and three screenshots it had not seen before, featuring Lucia, Jason and a plane over the Keys. The 230 GB line is the detail that stands out. We have no way to verify it. The photos are gone, MP1st says it could be a well-made fake, and a box printout can differ from a final download size, for example if it allows for a patch. Treat it as a flag, not a fact. ## Does the GTA 6 box come with a disc? No. Rockstar's own store page says physical versions contain only a download code, with no disc in the box, and lists an estimated shipping date of Nov. 12, 2026. Kotaku reports stores are allowed to sell the boxes from that day, which is a full week before the Nov. 19 launch. The sources disagree on one point. Rockstar's page says the code-in-box version supports preloading on Nov. 10. Polygon reports that people who bought the box have to wait until Thursday, Nov. 12 to redeem it, while digital buyers can start preloading on Nov. 10 at midnight. Both can be true if the code only works once it is in your hands, and Nov. 12 is the earliest that happens for most people. We would not count on a box giving you the Nov. 10 start. ## What about the poster? MediaMarkt, a German retailer, showed a double-sided GTA VI poster on its Instagram story on Friday, Nov. 6, according to Polygon. RockstarINTEL says messages from the retailer confirm every code-in-box copy includes that poster, and that there is no map. Treat the poster as retailer-confirmed, not announced by Rockstar itself. It is not yet clear whether U.S. stores will get the same extra. ## How much space should you clear for GTA 6 on PS5? Rockstar says the download is up to 212 GB, depending on your device, and PlayStation's checklist asks for at least 212 GB free, according to our earlier story on the preload times. The box photo suggests 230 GB. If you want one safe number, clear 250 GB. That covers both figures and leaves room for a day-one patch, which is our planning advice and not a Rockstar figure. The cheapest fix is to delete a game or two you finished months ago, which takes a few minutes. An external drive is not a substitute here, because PS5 games must be on internal storage or an M.2 drive to play. Check that before you buy anything. ## What is confirmed and what is not? - Confirmed by Rockstar: Nov. 19 launch, code-in-box physical version with no disc, estimated shipping Nov. 12. - Confirmed by Rockstar: the preload size is up to 212 GB. - Reported from one leaked photo: a 230 GB label, an "online functions" icon and three new screenshots. - Reported by a retailer: a double-sided poster in every code-in-box copy. - Not confirmed: whether the leaked box is genuine, and whether box buyers can preload before Nov. 12. ## Our take The boxed edition is a receipt with a shelf price. If you want to preload on Nov. 10, buying digital is the safer way to do it, and a box makes sense mostly if you want the poster or a retailer discount. We are wary of the 230 GB number until Rockstar addresses it, but we would still budget for it. A failed download at midnight on launch day is far more annoying than an unused 20 GB. ## Related reading - [GTA 6 preload times: Nov. 10 start, 212 GB, U.S. clocks](/post/gta-6-preload-times-nov-10-start-212-gb-u-s-clocks) - [GTA 6 release date Nov. 19: price, editions, preload](/post/gta-6-release-date-nov-19-price-editions-preload) - [Sony PS5 sales fall to 2.6M, Wolverine tops 2.4M copies](/post/sony-ps5-sales-fall-to-2-6m-wolverine-tops-2-4m-copies) Picture credit: Rockstar Games
