Daft Punk are becoming Lego. The Lego Group announced a partnership with the French electronic duo on Thursday, and the first product will be an official set based on the pyramid stage from the group's 2007 Alive tour. Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and Polygon all covered the announcement, which Lego's own press release describes as spanning "product, content and brand experiences".

## A fan design becomes an official set

The set began as a fan project. Lego says a Luxembourg father and son submitted a Daft Punk Concert build to its Lego Ideas platform, where it won the grand prize in the Music to Our Ears challenge in 2020 and later reached 10,000 supporters. It now advances to become an official product.

"This all started as a creative escape during lockdown between my son and I because of our shared love of Daft Punk and Lego building," Patrick Harboun, who created the submission, said in a statement. Lego notes that the model shown so far is the fan submission and not necessarily the final design it will produce.

## Teaser, short film and minifigures

According to Rolling Stone, the group teased the collaboration on Wednesday during its "Daft Punk – WDPK 83.7" transmission, which Lego says ended with a 30-second clip of a red 2x4 Lego brick. On Thursday the two sides released a short film in which the duo appear as Lego minifigures, soundtracked by "Voyager" from 2001's *Discovery* and the title track of 2005's *Human After All*. Polygon reported that the set will include minifigure versions of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo in their robot guises.

Daft Punk's creative director, Cédric Hervet, said in a statement: "The pyramid stage is one of the most recognisable expressions of Daft Punk's visual world, so it feels fitting that this fan-created design will be centre stage of this partnership."

## What is still unknown

Lego has not given a release date or price, and Polygon noted the company did not say when the set will go on sale. Rolling Stone reported that preorder details and the full version of the pyramid set will arrive in the coming months.

The deal is not limited to one box of bricks. Lego says Daft Punk will be "brought to life in new ways across the Lego brand", through events and content that cross music, culture and creative spaces. "This is just the beginning of a bigger journey," said Julia Goldin, Lego's chief product and marketing officer.

Pitchfork was careful to note that the announcement does not signal a return to music. The duo split in 2021, and the report said the Lego tie-up leaves the group no closer to a reunion, though it adds Daft Punk to a short list of musical acts, including the Beatles and the Spice Girls, who have been turned into plastic bricks.
