## Key takeaways

- Netflix released the first Cunk on Cinema trailer on Oct. 29, with Michael Bay and Benedict Cumberbatch among 23 guests.
- Cunk on Cinema streams on Netflix in the U.S. starting Nov. 15, according to Consequence and The Hollywood Reporter.
- Outlets disagree on whether it is six episodes or three half-hour episodes; Netflix has not confirmed the format.

Netflix released the first trailer for *Cunk on Cinema* on Thursday, Oct. 29, and the new Philomena Cunk series will start streaming on Netflix in the U.S. on Nov. 15, according to The Hollywood Reporter and Consequence. Diane Morgan returns as the deadpan, hopelessly misinformed interviewer, this time cross-examining people who actually make movies.

## What the trailer shows

The Hollywood Reporter says Cunk questions 23 film-industry guests, among them director Michael Bay, actor Benedict Cumberbatch and composer Daniel Pemberton. In the trailer, she asks Cumberbatch, "When you're trying to get inside a character, which hole do you enter by, north or south?" Bay answers another of her questions with, "These, er… are odd questions."

Netflix's synopsis, quoted by both outlets, says Cunk will chart cinema from the invention of the camera and the 1960s New Wave through CGI to what AI might do to the business. She does it, the synopsis adds, from "lumpy seats with stale popcorn."

## Release and credits

Consequence reports the premiere date as Nov. 15, a Sunday. The BBC and Pacesetter Productions make the show, and Netflix streams it outside the U.K. and Ireland. Charlie Brooker created the series and is a writer and executive producer alongside Morgan. Al Campbell directs. The Hollywood Reporter adds that physicist Jim Al-Khalili and Ashley Jackson return from *Cunk on Life* and *Cunk on Earth*.

## What isn't settled

Outlets disagree on the format. The Hollywood Reporter and Consequence call it a six-part series, while the BBC's earlier announcements described three 30-minute episodes. Those may be the same running time cut two ways, but Netflix hasn't said, so treat the episode count as unconfirmed for now.

## Our take

Putting Cunk in front of working filmmakers is the smartest version of this format yet. The joke only lands when a real expert has to decide whether to answer the question or politely walk away, and Bay and Cumberbatch are recognizable enough that U.S. viewers will get the setup in seconds. A mid-November Sunday launch also gives it a few weeks before the holiday crowd arrives.

One caution: a trailer is built from the best exchanges, so it says little about how the full episodes hold up. We haven't seen them, and we'll update this story once Netflix publishes its own listing.
